Eric Claptons levenslange passie voor de blues hoor je op Nothing But The Blues. Het album bevat 17 niet eerder uitgebrachte live-uitvoeringen, opgenomen in 1994 tijdens de legendarische tour ten tijd van From The Cradle. Claptons oude co-producer, Simon Climie, heeft de audio van die uitvoeringen geremixt van de originele multi-tracking-opnames.
De niet eerder uitgebrachte live-optredens op Nothing But the Blues vormen een onmisbare tegenhanger van From The Cradle, dat in de studio is opgenomen. Hoewel er op beide verschillende nummers verschijnen ("Motherless Child", "Standing 'Round Crying" en "I'm Tore Down"), zijn de uitvoeringen totaal verschillend.
De release bevat ook nummers die niet op From the Cradle verschenen, waaronder "Blues All Day Long" van Jimmy Rogers en "Malted Milk" van Robert Johnson, evenals de standards "Every Day I Have The Blues" en "Forty-Four". .”
