De titel van Thomas' derde album voor Bob Thiele's Flying Dutchman verwijst naar Oliver Nelson's klassieke LP uit 1961, "The Blues and the Abstract Truth". Uitgebracht in 1972, "Blues And The Soulful Truth" bevatte een uitgebreide all-star band met Pretty Purdie (drums), Stanley Clarke (bas), Cecil Payne (baritonsax) en de onbezongen Neal Creque (keyboards). It's a soul meets jazz meets the blues meesterwerk met arrangementen van ex-James Brown hoornman Pee Wee Ellis.

Dit verbluffende album bevat het buitengewone 'Shape Your Mind To Die', 'LOV-E', een boeiende vocale versie van Gabor Szabo's 'Gypsy Queen', het meeslepende 'Love Each Other', het klagende 'China Doll' en een stuwende versie van John Lee Hooker's 'Boom-Boom-Boom'.

Geperst op 180 gram vinyl zijn we trouw gebleven aan de originele persing, waarbij we de Flying Dutchman-labelstijl en gatefold-hoes repliceren.
